Meet Herbaland
A fellow Vancouver-based company, the folks at Herbaland Gummies are no strangers to the sustainability movement. As a family-owned business, they believe a sustainable world is created by prioritizing the environment and their community, while also taking actions that respect the earth's natural processes. As the largest gummy manufacturer in Canada, they’re setting the standard using only high-quality plant-based ingredients and sustainable manufacturing methods. With over 40 vegan, earth-friendly gummy snacks and vitamins, they aim to make wellness accessible to everyone.
After witnessing the impacts of climate change within their community in 2021, they saw an immediate need to accelerate their sustainability goals. Eliminating plastic bottles from their supply chain was a big part of this effort. Today, most of their products come in pouches made from 100% compostable materials, and they plan to eliminate plastic packaging altogether by 2023.
Their new pouches take up less space, helping to reduce transportation pollution, and have the potential to divert over 60,000 plastic bottles or 2 tons of plastics from landfills each year. Customers can also skip the packaging entirely by grabbing their gummies in bulk at zero-waste stores across Canada.
Ensuring their supplements were plant-based from the inside out was an important step as a sustainable business, but seeing the state of our planet, they still felt that there was more they could do. Inspired to join the restorative movement, Herbaland announced they would be joining forces with the tree planting platform veritree and embarking on a mission to put the planet first.View this post on Instagram
1 Pouch = 1 Tree
In collaboration with veritree, Herbaland committed to planting 500,000 trees in 2022 and 2.5 million trees by 2025. Using veritree’s on-the-ground monitoring and blockchain verification, Herbaland will plant one tree for every pouch they sell. Each pouch sold will plant a mangrove tree in Madagascar — a species which not only helps reduce coastal erosion, but is one of the most efficient carbon-capturing trees in the world. In addition to restoring valuable ecosystems, this collaboration also supports the local community by creating numerous employment opportunities at their planting site.
