We recently set out on a road trip up the Pacific Northwest coast, chasing rugged shorelines, ancient forests, and the kind of landscapes that make you stop and just breathe. Naturally, we had to share our favorite stops with you!
From towering trees that have stood for centuries to misty beaches and lush, rain-soaked trails — these epic road trip stops along the coast remind us why getting outside is always the right call.

1. Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park
Escape into an ancient, untouched world. We did — and had a blast.
The Hoh Rainforest has remained mostly unchanged for thousands of years, offering a glimpse into what ancient temperate rainforests looked like. It’s one of the wettest places in the continental U.S., with 12-14 feet of rain each year, and is a haven of lush, moss-draped trees and vibrant year-round greenery. Nestled within Olympic National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — it’s home to Roosevelt elk (the largest in North America) and the Hoh River, fed by the melting ice of Mount Olympus’ Blue Glacier.
2. Big Cedar, Kalaloch
This iconic Western Red Cedar is believed to be nearly 1,000 years old, standing strong against harsh coastal winds and storms.
Nestled along the rugged Kalaloch shoreline, the Big Cedar Tree’s sprawling branches create microhabitats for lichens, ferns, and small wildlife — and a visual marvel for adventurers. A favorite stop for hikers, it’s not only a natural wonder but also a living piece of Washington’s rich heritage.
3. Tree of Life, Forks, WA
Suspended in midair, the Tree of Life defies gravity (and logic) as erosion carves away the ground beneath it — yet it continues to thrive.
A true testament to resilience, the Tree of Life continues to baffle scientists and visitors alike. Perched along the rugged Washington coast, this tree lives out on a limb. Its roots hang in midair, leading nowhere yet still keeping this natural wonder alive. Despite the erosion beneath it, this tree refuses to fall.4. Ruby Beach, Olympic Peninsula
Glinting with tiny, reddish garnet-like crystals, Ruby Beach gets its name from the hidden sparkle in its sand and is known for its dramatic sea stacks.
With its glittering sand and towering sea stacks, this rugged stretch of coastline feels like something out of a misty, magical dream. Crashing waves, driftwood-strewn shores, and tide pools teeming with marine life — nature’s beauty is on full display here. Lush forests, salty air — life’s out here.
