Nature is at the heart of everything we do. It's why we've set the goal of planting 1 billion trees by 2030. By choosing the right trees and planting them in the right locations, we can maximize benefits for the environment and local communities.

In 2023, our customers helped plant over 12 million trees across 5 countries, helping us reach the milestone of 100M trees planted.

Enabling customers to fund restoration work through their purchases has always been at the core of our mission to make restoring the planet simple. While ten years ago this meant planting trees, we have evolved to look for adjacent opportunities to restore the environment.

With this in mind, in 2023, we supported some of our most exciting projects yet, including farmland restoration to secure the migration path for monarch butterflies, planting trees in cotton fields, and extending our efforts to the ocean with kelp, coral, and mangroves.

These are the projects our customers supported in 2023:

1,043,526

Kelp in Canada

7,560

Milkweed plants supporting Monarch Butterflies in the USA

500

Coral in the USA

5,797,988

Mangrove Trees in Kenya

5,160,000

Terrestrial Trees including:

  • 10,000 Cedar trees in Canada
  • 50,000 trees in regenerative farming systems in India
  • 5,100,000 trees in Tanzania

Planting Spotlight

In 2022, we collaborated with Pratibha Syntex, a trusted supplier of our Fairtrade organic cotton garments, and Vasudha Swaraj to plant agroforestry trees in cotton fields, prioritizing regenerative agriculture practices. Regenerative agriculture in fashion and textiles prioritizes sustainable farming methods that enhance soil health, biodiversity, and social justice, supporting both economic prosperity and traditional wisdom.

In 2023, around 46,000 plants were distributed to local cotton farmers. Some have already produced fruits like guava and nitrogen-fixing leaves that farmers are using as natural fertilizer.

In addition to improving biodiversity on the farmland used for cotton production, the project also supports women who run tree nurseries, empowering them to become more involved in business ventures.

More seedlings were funded in 2023 and we are excited to watch this project and the women involved in it continue to thrive.
